Dr Hari Ramakonar and Dr Shinuo Liu are accomplished Neurosurgeons.

They proudly work in the WA Statewide Neurosurgery public service and in private settings.

Dr Shinuo Liu

PhD, FRACS (Neurosurgery)

Dr Shinuo Liu is a fellowship trained, Australian Neurosurgeon who proudly calls WA home. He graduated from UNSW Medicine with Honours and was trained at major Australasian Neurosurgical centres including Royal North Shore, Auckland City, St George and Macquarie University Hospitals. He was mentored in cerebrovascular surgery by some of Australia’s leading authorities. During training, he completed an award-winning PhD and Master of Surgery at Macquarie University.

His particular interests include aneurysms, AVMs, cerebral bypass, trigeminal neuralgia, disorders of CSF (syringomyelia, hydrocephalus, and CSF leaks), brain tumours and spinal conditions.  

Dr Liu was a consultant Neurosurgeon and part of the renowned Macquarie Neurosurgery group in Sydney. He was recruited by the WA Statewide Neurosurgery Service for his cerebrovascular expertise. He is a Senior Clinical Lecturer at Macquarie University Faculty of Medicine, and has had academic appointments at UNSW, Western Sydney, Auckland, Bond and Griffiths Universities.

He is fluent in Cantonese and Mandarin, and has conversational Japanese.


Dr Hari Ramakonar

MBBS (Hons), FRACS (Neurosurgery)

Dr Hari Ramakonar is a proudly born and raised Western Australian fellowship trained, Neurosurgeon. Having graduated from UWA medicine with Honours, he was trained at major Australasian Neurosurgical centres including Perth, Sydney Children’s Hospital, Prince of Wales Hospital and Wollongong Hospital.

He then went on to complete world renowned fellowships at the following centres:

  • Complex Spine Surgery - The University of Toronto, Canada

  • Epilepsy Surgery (Adult and Paediatric) - The University of Western Ontario, Canada

  • Paediatric Neurosurgery - The Royal Children’s Hospital, Melbourne Australia

His particular interests include spinal conditions, brain and spinal tumours, epilepsy surgery, deep brain stimulation, hydrocephalus, neurotrauma and paediatric neurosurgery.

Throughout his career, Dr Ramakonar has contributed to, and published in, numerous world class academic medical publications and presented at local and international meetings. He has received numerous awards, scholarships and grants and have been involved with global health and the Foundation for International Education in Neurological Surgery (FIENS). 

Dr Ramakonar is currently a reviewer for numerous academic journals. He has a deep interest in health, wellness and the human nervous system.
